What is VEX IQ Robotics?

VEX IQ is the world's largest platform for elementary and middle school students to compete in robotics tournaments. Teams of students are challenged to design, build, program, and document a robot specifically made to complete game objectives that vary from year to year. In their competitions against 20,000 teams worldwide from over 40 countries, students learn to work as a team and improve their collaboration and communication skills.
For more information, see the official VEX website, or go straight to the VEX IQ Robotics branch.

This year's game is called Slapshot, and the objective is to score as many points as possible by clearing dispensers, shooting discs into goal zones, and extending into designated areas.
See the video below for an explanation of the game:

VEX IQ teams usually consist of around 3 - 6 people, and each person on the team fills a unique role, such as, but not limited to, the drivers, builders, programmers, notebookers, etc.
A VEX IQ Tournament is split into sections: Qualifiers and Elimination. The former consists of 2 random teams working together, and the latter is a tournament-style best of one bracket.

During a VEX IQ tournament, there is both competing and interviewing, the latter of which is important to qualify for the prestigious awards given at each competition. In order from greatest to least, these include the Excellence Award, Tournament Champions, Design Award, Skills Award, Judges Award, and many others not listed.
